Anaemia Isn't One Condition

Low iron, low B12, poor absorption and slow blood loss all look identical from the outside. Tired, breathless on stairs, pale, dizzy when you stand up too fast. They need completely different treatment, which is why one test won't sort it out.

Iron in particular empties in stages. Your stores go first and haemoglobin follows much later. That's how you end up feeling wrecked for months while a routine blood count keeps coming back normal, and it's the reason ferritin matters more here than haemoglobin on its own.

Before You Book

Sample: Blood. Preparation: No fasting needed. A morning sample after an overnight gap does give the most reliable reading on a few of these, so book early if you can.

Tell the collection team everything you're taking, prescription or not. Plenty of supplements move these numbers, and without that context your report reads wrong.

Reading Your Report

Expect a value or two to sit slightly outside the range. That's normal and usually means nothing on its own. What matters is which one, by how much, and whether it's moving compared with last time.

These tests point at a diagnosis. They don't make one. Read your report with a doctor who knows your history and what you're currently taking.
