High Cholesterol Has No Symptoms At All

It does its damage quietly over years, depositing in artery walls and narrowing them, and the first sign for many people is a heart attack or a stroke. There's nothing to feel along the way.

A lipid profile is one of the few ways to watch that process before it produces an event. It's also one of the most modifiable things on any report, which is what makes measuring it worthwhile rather than merely interesting.

Before You Book

Sample: Blood. Preparation: Fast for 8 to 12 hours before your sample. Water is fine, and keep taking any regular medication unless your doctor says otherwise.

Tell the collection team everything you're taking, prescription or not. Plenty of supplements move these numbers, and without that context your report reads wrong.

Reading Your Report

Expect a value or two to sit slightly outside the range. That's normal and usually means nothing on its own. What matters is which one, by how much, and whether it's moving compared with last time.

These tests point at a diagnosis. They don't make one. Read your report with a doctor who knows your history and what you're currently taking.
